Not life threatening: Heaving menstrual bleeding is common with a myoma (utermine fibroid). These muscle tumors are not cancer, but can get quite large and cause heavy bleeding. If waiting for menopause isn't realistic, some type of surgical procedure is usually needed to control the bleeding.
