A member asked:

Mother's glaucoma is treatment resistant with drops & laser. dr will do trabeculectomy. will she also be more resistant to surgery than average person?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: There are studies that show reduced success rates with trabeculectomy in patients who have been chronically treated with glaucoma meds. However, practically speaking, trabeculectomy with anti fibrosis agents produces quite successful iop reduction. Hopefully this will stabilize your mothers visual field loss. Should this procedure fail, aqueous drainage devices may provide an alternative approach.
