A member asked:

Dark kidney on an ultrascan. what does this indicate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dark is good: Dark kidneys usually means there is no evidence of scarring in the kidneys. The only time it is worrisome is if evidence of urine accumulation in the kidney from urinary tract obstruction is present, the urine is a fluid and it's color is black on ultrasound. Usually bright kidneys are worrisome for scarring of the kidneys.
