Cool kindness: Urge the person to comply with medical treatment. Usually this can be managed with medication (hopefully short term) and psychotherapy (best is cognitive-behavioral; avoid therapists who urge a lot of looking back or thinking about what someone hates instead of what someone loves.) no arguing or trying to talk-out-of-it, no blaming, no demands. Watch for signs of suicide & call 911 if must.
