Symptoms and causes for entrapment of lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

MERALGIA: This is a pure sensory nerve, and no weakness or reflex changes appear, but there is numbness and/or tingling over antero-lateral thigh, and maybe some aching or even burning over the same area. May get worse with tight objects about the waist, and is associated with weight gain, belts, seat belt injuries, and diabetes.

Meralgia: Impingement of the lateral cutaneous nerve is termed meralgia paresthetica; it involves numbness and/or burning pain down the distribution of the nerve. It is caused by, usually, an overweight individual's soft tissue compressing down on the nerve when sitting down, causing injury.
