I have asthma and my doctor has advised me to get the pneumonia vaccine. i never had pneumonia so i don't see the need. should i get the vaccine ?

Yes: Having asthma you are at risk of getting pneumonia. It therefore a no brainer to get the pneumonia shot even though you have not had pneumonia. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Pneumovax: Asthma is a chronic lifelong disease with inflammation of the airways that increases our susceptibility to infections and illness. The pneumonia vaccine does not prevent pneumonia, it simply provides protection against the most common cause of pneumonia. It is a good idea to be vaccinated.
