Viral conjunctivitis: Most eye infections in kids are viral. Viral infection on the inner part of the eyelid & thin moist "skin"covering the eyeball-called the conjunctiva is called "conjunctivitis." even simple colds can spread to the eyes. Handbwashing is essential -you can catch this infection. Antibiotics don't work-just time 7-14 days. If its really thick, he could have a secondary bacterial infection-yes er!

Sounds like a cold: Colds do not require a visit to the er. Tylenol, (acetaminophen) fluids, rest and time. Take him to a family practice doctor or pediatrician (or even urgent care doctor) if he doesn't get better in a few days.
