Unlikely: Based on the symptoms you mention, a viral infection would be more likely for your 3 yr old. Depending how the diagnosis of strep was made for your older child, he may or may not have the same thing. Hope they're both feeling fine soon!

No.: Strep virtually never causes nasal symptoms. Hoarse voice is virtually diagnostic, in almost every circumstance, of a viral upper respiratory tract infection. Because brother has strep, it is possible that the 3yo could have a positive strep test, but strep is not the cause of his current symptoms.
