Malabsorption: Many of gastric by pass patients have problems absorbing some of the essential vitamins via the stomach or duodenum-jejunum. No matter how much vitamins you swallow, it will not be absorbed into your body. You may need some vitamin injections, or try isotonic formulations of vitamins.

May be food allergy: Riboflavin (b2), zinc, or iron deficiency can cause cheilosis (cracked corners of mouth), so it may help to take higher doses of these due to possible absorption problems. Check with your doc. In addition to what's been said, you could have a chronic food allergy causing your cracked lips. Common causes include gluten/gliadin (wheat), dairy, soy, and eggs. An elimination diet may help.
