A member asked:

I have been on cymbalta (duloxetine) for not quite two months. 30mg to 60mg. coming off now. side effect is diaheira, is that common?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diarrhea - possible: Can be. Whenever i taper my patients from a drug, I do it slowly, so i haven't typically encountered this. On the other hand, Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a "snri" which means that it increases both serotonin and norepinephrine. Norepinephrine, via acting through the sympathetic nervous system, could slow down your bowels. Thus, if you acclimate to it and then come off, your bowels will be more active.
