Insulin resistance: Is a state, usually due to age, genetics and obesity -- where the body (particularly liver and muscle, but all organs) become resistant to the actions of insulin, and it takes more Insulin to do it's jobs. This generally leads to more weight gain, more Insulin resistance, diabetes, high blood pressure, high lipids, heart disease and many other risk factors for early disease and death.
