Not age related: Safety is not so much age related as it is related to your general health, post operative care, the facility and your doctor. Chose a board certified plastic surgeon, an accredited facility and follow post op care instructions. However, nothing in life is risk free. You can only take an educated risk.

Safe if...: Assuming you are in good health ( preferably verified by your family practitioner or internist), you are a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery, select your plastic surgeon/anesthesiologist/surgery facility carefully, you will likely do well with tummy tuck surgery. Do your due diligence carefully when it comes to the “factors” listed above best wishes.

Safe: If you have no medical conditions, the risk of tummy tuck surgery is not higher just because you are 53.

Very Safe: While all surgical procedures have some risks, a 53y/o without any medical problems should not have any greater risk for surgery. An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, is almost always perfomed as an outpatient procedure. Follow up is at 24-48 hours and you often return to a desk type job within a week. My patients are usually back to full exercise within 4 weeks.
