Controversial topic: Elevated TSH in presence of normal free T4 & free T3 (liothyronine) is known as subclinical hypothyroidism in traditional medicine (http://jama.Jamanetwork.Com/article.Aspx?Articleid=186627 & http://www.Uptodate.Com/contents/subclinical-hypothyroidism). Some feel strongly this should be treated (http://jcem.Endojournals.Org/content/86/10/4585.Full). Important question to ask is how you feel: treat if symptomatic.

Failing gland: Your thyroid is in the process of failing. The elevated TSH is at least partially compensating right now. You may/may not have symptoms. If you feel well, you can wait, but you will likely become completely hypothyroid eventually.
