Is it safe for my mother to sleep in my mother-in-law's bed, who was just diagnosed today with cellulitis?

Should be: Cellulitis is most commonly caused by organisms that live on our skin anyways (staphylococcus and streptococcus); if your mother has casual contact with your mother in law, they likely share flora. I would wash the sheets, though, to be sure.

Yes: Unless she has open wounds, the infection of her leg is not likely to be contagious. Of course, she should be on some form of treatment to assure that she is getting better. Take a look at the topics of venous stasis and venous insufficiency as these may also be what is causing her cellultis if it involves her legs.
