Shin splints: In most cases, your heel will strike the ground first when running. To prevent the forefoot from slapping down, the tibialis anterior muscle, which attaches to the shin, will fire. Depending on the running surface, shoes and other support needs, it can become stressed, leading to shin splints. If a change in sneakers doesn't help, see a podiatrist.

Shin splints: You may have a condition called shin splints. This is usually seen in young athletes who have not stretched adequately before running and /or they have flat feet.

Why does my shin: You need a thorough bio mechanical exam by a podiatrist of your lower extremities to see if it is tendinitis, if one leg is shorter than another, very rarely a stress fracture of the tibia. Need to check if you are using the right sneakers for your foot type, might need proper stretching before running and orthotics.
