Shin splints not...: always from running. If you are overweight, climbing a lot of stairs recently, or even just from walking or doing activities that u are not used to, u can stress / strain the tibialis anterior muscle on the front of the shin. Repeated physical trauma prob does not help. The best way to check for a stress fracture is a high-resolution X-ray of the shin in various angles; your doctor couldd order that.
