Varies: A stress fracture occurs when the stresses that are placed on the bone overcome the bones ability to remodel after injury. The treatment is really based upon the level of activity that created it and the degree of discomfort associated with it. It can vary from simply cutting activities back somewhat, to a cast and crutches. Thank you for the question.

Usually not: Stressfractures may take upt to 8 weeks to heal. Your body has to catch up with the stree that your activity has put on it. Wearing a boot can decrease the weight on your foot as well as slow you down. If still having pain in the brace you need to decrease your activity even further or use crutches. Stress fx that last > 2 months may need bone stimulator and evaluation by a bone metabolism doc.
