Postoperative pain: Pain that changes, or comes and goes after surgery is not unusual. As nerves heal after decompression and blood flows back in, symptoms can actually worsen a bit. This usually is short lived, with gradual improvement thereafter. If not better in 6 wks to 3 months, an investigation is warranted. Slipped bone graft, cage, screw, or a new problem could cause. Severe pain should prompt a visit asap.

Wear/Tear: With previous back surgery, sometimes pain can result from the wear and tear of the levels above/below your surgery that takes place after a fusion surgery. If this is the case, recommend seeing your spine surgeon or a spine/pain specialist to evaluate this further.
