Yes: There is a whole process of your body preparing for delivering a baby. The cervix will soften and "ripen, " before it starts to thin and dilate. As this process progresses, and you get closer to delivery, contractions start, water may break, and you probably know the rest from there. The softening of the cervix may be heralding the beginning of the beginning...
