Not good: Your stomach is built for acid, your esophagus is not, so acid floating up can cause damage over time. You can try over the counter Prevacid (lansoprazole) or prilosec, but if needed more than a few weeks, need to see doctor, is very rare but possible that stomach cancer acts like heartburn and should get checked if persistent.

It is not healthy.: Heartburn options: Elevate head of bed, avoid tight clothes that cinch the abdomen, avoid meals late at night, wait at least 3 hrs after a meal to lie down, eat smaller meals, maintain a healthy body weight, avoid smoking, avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, caffeine & carbonated beverages. Try acupuncture, hypnosis, ginger tea, relaxation exercises. See if specific foods are triggers such as chocolate
