A member asked:

Can gerd go away or will it stay with you for good?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is chronic: Gerd is caused by a weal muscle in the lower esophagus, so it is often a life long illness although the heart burn type of symptoms will go away as long as you are taking antacids. But you can give it a try stopping the medication for a few weeks and see how well you feel. But do make your doctor fully aware of what you are and should actually be doing.
