During anxiety, my new girlfriend checks her pulse to make sure her heart is still beating. is this?

Anxiety: If she is able to check her pulse, then her heart is still beating. If she's awake it is still beating.

What's Her Reason?: Does ur g/f understand that what she's doing is not rational? If she does realize this, does she have her own superstitious reasons 4 checking (e.g., "if i check my pulse i'll keep my heart from stopping").
