Mildly enlarged lymph nodes on lungs after pet scan. what do this mean?

Non specific finding: Enlarged lymph nodes can be from infection, inflammation or spread of cancer. You did not mention the amount of FDG uptake or the reason for the pet scan. This information is needed to narrow the differential. Sometimes a biopsy is needed to make correct diagnosis.

Why the PET?: The indication for the study is needed for proper interpretation. Enlarged lymph nodes may be reactive, inflammatory or malignant (cancer). Consult with your treating physician to discuss the result.

Probably reactive: Your lymph nodes are "factories" for your immune system to produce a variety of substances and cells for fighting off infection. They can enlarge with even a cold. The swollen "glands" in the neck when you have strep throat are really lymph nodes. So, mildly enlarged nodes, especially if they have no or little FDG uptake on a pet/ct scan, are likely benign. Please see your health care provider.
