Medicine or time: It might be a cold sore (herpes simplex). They usually go way by themselves and taking some Ibuprofen (motrin) can help the pain.
Doctor can prescribe acyclovir, valacyclovir or Famciclovir to help it go faster if treated early. Medicine only needed if you have other medical problems.
