I had braces before, and need them again, but can i still get them with short tooth roots?

Yes: In consultation with your dentist a discussion of a second or retreatment will include a discussion of the risks of this treatment in a case with short roots.

Possibly: But be very careful. Blunted roots (resorption) have been associated with an autoimmune type reaction that can occur again--an unfortunate possibility that can have grave consequences. Seek referral to a trusted orthodontic specialist with experience in the treatment of adults with special needs or compromised systems.

Concerns: Short blunted roots may be a result of prior orthodontic treatment. The shorter the root, the less support the tooth has and often leads to premature tooth loss. Without seeing your treatment record and x-rays, it's difficult to determine if additional orthodontic treatment will be detrimental to the longevity of your teeth or improve your dentition.
