Slightly higher: BP augments slightly in the ankles due to the effects of capacitance and gravity compared with arm BP . The ratio is typically around 1.1 when compared with brachial (arm bp). The ankle:brachial ratio is often a marker for peripheral vascular disease though sometimes it can underestimate the severity of PVD when the abi is close to normal as a result of calcified and noncompliant peripheral art.
