Bypass surgery?: If its cardiac bypass surgery, the main focus of her care now will be cardiac rehabilitation, and being compliant with her medications. She will also need close followup by her surgeons, and any other doctors in her care. Best wishes to her!

2 mo full recovery: She will have to recover from the surgery and hopefully be discharged home after 3-5 days. She will enrol in cardiac rehab and hopefully continue with it for the rest of her life. It will take a couple weeks to feel better from the surgery, two months before her sternum is healed and then resume full activity. We will follow up with her primary md, cardiologist and surgeon.

Recovery period: After open heart surgery, depending on the type and the pre-surgery condition of the patient, one can expect a variable period of recovery. She can expect one week in the hospital, and then an extended period of gradual recovery to her previous activities. This may require admission to an extended care facility if she has limited assistance at home. The recovery is variable among patients.
