Get help!: There are some things we just cannot be expected to handle alone. There are professionals who can help you with your son, and also help him use his strengths to overcome his vulnerabilities. I know schizophrenic people who, with the right meds and good support, lead quite functional lives. Do not give up hope!

Seek support: Local chapter of national alliance for mentally ill (nami.Org) or of mental health americal (nmha.Org) may be able to provide support. Also, in such a situation, it is important for family members to not ignore their own mental health. If your sadness starts to affect your ability to function in your usual life-roles, it would be best to get evaluated to ensure you don't need therapy or meds.
