Tonsillar infection: If you have an infection or inflammation of the tonsil on one side it may also involve tissues in back of the tonsil, causing obstruction of the eustacian tube and ear pain on that side, or referred pain to the ear from the posterior pharynx. Normal is not the question, it can occur.
