No prevention: Sometimes hypothyroidism is a temporary state, but usually it can't be prevented unless it's the result of some other medication or medical treatment. The only treatment for hypothyroidism for patients with thyroxine (t4) deficiency is levothyroxine. Drugs containing T3 (liothyronine) are rarely necessary for managing hypothyroidism except under unusual circumstances.
