Heat= inflammation: Heat can help decrease muscle pain and spasm but it can make arthritis symptoms worse. Ice is a good anti- inflammatory modality. Do not use anything at the extreme ranges of temperature- you might be irritating the nerves with something too hot. Check with your doctor or physical therapist to make sure you are using the modalities correctly.
