Yes and no: After being in control for 18 mos on methimazole, there is a 30-40% chance that the medication could be slowly withdrawn and your hyperthyroidism would be "cured". Not great odds, however. You could also use i-131 which is safe and effective with one dose, although it can lead to an underactive thyroid. Some doctors continue patients on Methimazole for extended periods of time, if they're stable.

Hot nodule: Have they ruled out a hot nodule with thyroid uptake scan before starting methimazole? A toxic thyroid nodule can give you antibody negative hyperthyroidism and removing the nodule surgically (on experienced hands) is often recommended over radioablation.
