Yes: Yes diabetes can slow down you gastrointestinal tract. Something called gastroparesis.

Yes : People who've had type 1 dm for more than 10 years, particularly when control hasn't been good, run the risk of developing neuropathy of the gut. Also, celiac sprue is an autoimmune disease of the small intestine seen more commonly in patients w/t1dm for which you should be screened for anyway. Please discuss your symptoms with your doctor.
