Avoid complications: Aside from keeping your blood sugars under good control, you and your doctor need to regularly look for early signs of complications. See you eye doctor regularly. Check your feet for small injuries every day. A urine test for protein (microalbumin) should be done yearly. Don't smoke. Keep blood pressure normal.
