Solid foods: You should not eat or drink before the gastric emptying study for at least 8 hours. If you had to drink, drink water. Dairy products are slow to empty from the stomach, especially milk, so i would not have milk the day before the test. Also avoid certain medications like reglan, (metoclopramide) Erythromycin and domperidon- they affect stomach emptying.

Several things.: It's important to have nothing to eat or drink for (usually) 8 hours prior to the test. Also, certain medications can affect gastric emptying. Of the ones that you are on, erytab (erythromycin) would speed up the rate of emptying. Your physician may purposely intend to check your emptying either on or off that med, so check with him/her to see if you should remain on it for your test.

Many: Basically all medications that may affect gastric motility. Reglan (metoclopramide), erythromycin, motilium (domperidone), and antispasmodics such as bentyl, donnatal, (phenobarbital atropine hyoscyamine and scopolamine) levsin, and Robinul are usually stopped for 3 days prior to this test . Do not take any laxatives on the day before or any time during your study.
