What do my fellow obgyn's think about the trend of using levemir (insulin detemir) for gestational diabetes management? esp interested in mfm opinions.

Not good as lantus (insulin glargine): While Lantus has not been studied in pregnancy, it has been used in millions of patients without problems. Levemir (insulin detemir) is a bid drug, requires higher doses, and is not a once/daily basal insulin. I use Lantus exclusively in this situation and in pregnancy in type 1 patients. Other physicians may disagree, but this will never be studied in pregnancy since patents run out soon.
