At what point is insulin necessary for gestational diabetes?

When your Dr. says: If you have gestational diabetes you should be checking your blood sugar levels multiple times a day and reporting those numbers to your OB doctor. You need to count carbs and be very strict in your diet - if not for you, then for the baby! when you cannot or will not control your blood sugar with diet alone, you doctor will need to add Insulin for the safety of your baby. No oral meds in preg.

Insulin NG in GDM: Gestational diabetes is the result of excessive sugar and carbohydrate intake which causes high blood sugar levels, which then make your Insulin levels rise. Plus the hormone changes in preg make prob worse. . Over time the chronically high Insulin levels lead to Insulin resistance and you will need to make higher and higher levels of insulin. Rx should be directed at reducing Insulin resistance.
