Probably inflammatio: If your pain is truly under the knee cap, more than likely this represents inflammation of the cartilage or "pinching" of the soft tissue in the knee. Avoid deep squats and stairs. Do quad sets and straight leg exercises. Sometimes a neoprene brace can help as well.
