How often should you brush and floss if you have braces?

Often: I recommend brushing after every meal, to remove the food stuck in the braces. Sometimes, it is simply not convenient to brush after a meal (after eating at a restaurant). Thoroughly rinsing the mouth with water will at least get the "large chunks" of food out of the mouth. Flossing should be done at least once per day, but thorough brushing is key.

Very: Brushing after every meal is critical to keep food and debris out from under your braces. Brushing when you awake and before you go to bed are also important to keep plaque from accumulating.

Minimally: Brush no less than 2x/day for 2 full minutes by the clock, soft t'brush, pea-sized portion of fluoridated t'paste. Floss or WaterPik at least once daily. Your treating Dentist or specialist Orthodontist may also have individualized oral hygiene procedures for you.
