A 45-year-old member asked:

How long does it usually take to get new retainers?

Depends: Some orthodontist make certain types of retainers in-house so they can get them for you the same day. Others require outside lab services, so they can take 2 to 3 weeks. Call your orthodontist and inquire.

I'm wondering how long is it going to take to get used to retainers?

Not long: When worn exactly as directed, a few days (teens) to a few weeks (adults). The more retainers are worn, the less time the retainers are out of the mouth, the less destabilization of the treatment result, the sooner the patient gets used to them. Look for reasons to put retainers in rather than excuses to take them out. If you feel there are "fit" problems, call your orthodontic specialist now.
