It's also how much: It doesn't matter if you'e vegetarian or carnivore - you need to burn off less than you take in to lose weight. You may also need to be checked for thyroid, pcos, etc which can make it hard to lose weight. See a good registered dietitian about your caloric allotment and expenditure.
