A member asked:

I got upper dentures this past summer, is it common to hate having them on?

Not uncommon: Learning to live with a denture can be a real challenge. It is a prosthesis, and requires an adaptation period for comfort, function and speech. A denture will never feel like real teeth, but if well made and properly adjusted, you may accommodate in time. See your dentist to make sure it is fitting properly.

Hating dentures: Getting dentures can be a difficult transition. If they do not fit well or are loose, see the dentist who made them and ask if they can be adjusted or relined. Make sure to keep a positive attitude and don't give up, it may just take a little while for you to get used to them.

Maybe Implants: Dentures move all around. If you can have 4-6 mini-implants, then the denture can snap onto these implants thereby keeping them from moving. Remember that not all patients are good candidates for implants. If yor are, then do it if you can afford the cost.

Yes.: But, if you make up your mind to learn to use them properly, you can do very well. Ask your dentist for some coaching.
