Yes: Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae and can cause a rash or hives. If this occurs the product should be discontinued. Mild symptoms usually subside spontaneously, but if this does not occur, you should see a physician.

Yes: A report published in a japanese medical journal reports: 49-year old woman noticed her skin rash several days after taking supplements containing spirulina, a planktonic blue-green alga. There were very few reports, but it can happen.
