Let me explain: A discogram works in two ways—both to view your disc and to find the source of your pain. Your doctor injects the dye into your disc space to try to recreate the pain. If you feel pain, then that disc is the likely source of your pain. If you don't feel the same kind of pain—even if that disc appears degenerated on the MRI scan—then other possible causes of your pain should be explored.

Little meaning : Discography has fallen out if favor as the results do not predict outcome from spinal surgery (such as fusion) very well and it can actually promote further degeneration of the disks.

Yes: A disco gram is a test in which a disc or multiple discs are pressurized with the patient awake. The patient will then be questioned about the nature of the symptoms as the disc is pressurized. Although disco grams are somewhat controversial, the thought is that if a patient has a reproduction of their pain when the disc is pressurized, than that disc is causing pain. Thank you for the question.

Maybe: The test is considered positive when it reproduces your typical pain. The controversy is what to do then. Both fusion and disk replacement have been used to treat this condition, diskogenic back pain, but the improvement is modest and not always consistent. Other factors should be considered in making a treatment decision. A second opinion can be wise.
