Theological: This is a filosofical, theological or religious question. Science cannot answer where our soul goes. Depending upon your set of believes (faith) your soul may go to "heaven, purgatory or hell" or something similar . The physical body will be eaten by insects, but some people believe in the "resurrection of the death" at some point

?: There are differing thoughts on this matter. The doctors on HealthTap have expertise in medicine. Having MD or DO degrees doesn't make us experts when it comes to religious or spiritual beliefs. I have my own personal beliefs about what happens after physical death of the body. But being a physician does not make my belief system and more or less valuable than another person's.

Wrong venue: This is a medical site. Medicine is based on science, not theology. From precursors in antiquity, modern science took root in the Renaissance 500 years ago. No matter what various ignorant opinionated people may try to convince you of, science explicitly rejects all supernatural phenomena, which includes religion. In science, when you’re dead, you’re dead. End of story.

Research shows:: I believe our soul is eternal. Some of my colleagues say science can't answer this but it's been studied, esp. near-death experiences- see the books Death is of Vital Importance by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross MD, Life After Life by Ray Moody MD, Surviving Death by Leslie Kean, Journey of Souls by Michael Newton PhD, Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss MD etc. and see https://tinyurl.com/y5dbqblz
