Prescription: You would need a doctor's prescription for antibiotics to treat bv. Typically, there is no typically preventive measure that you can do to stop a recurrence.

Boric acid: vaginal inserts are available often in health food stores. Boric acid works by acidifying the vagina. BV occurs when the vaginal PH becomes alkaline. Using condoms until you are free of BV is a good idea because semen is alkaline.

No: BV is best treated with antibiotics for which you need a prescription. There is some evidence that probiotics like acidophilus or lactobacillus may help prevent future infections
