SEE A DOCTOR: Many times strep can clear up on its own without treatment. However, if strep isnt treated one runs the risk of developing rheumatic fever, glomerulonephritis, or chorea. It is not worth the risk not to be treated. The white patch may be caused by a virus, but one can't tell for sure unless a culture is taken.
