Still useful: Mammograms are still useful for people with implants. They're still considered the best screening test.

No really: Self exam and mammograms are still the best initial approaches to detecting breast cancer. Having breast implants does not change this. Properly done and interpreted, a mammogram is just as reliable whether there is an implant or not. If there is a question on the mammogram then the patient will be referred for further evaluation.

Mammograms/ Implants: You shouldn't have much of a problem getting a mammogram if you have breast implants, however, you do need a special radiographic technique called an ecklund (sp?) mammogram. The radiology centers are well versed at this technique which gives you better views of your breast tissue. Mammography is a screening tool and should be combined with self-breast exams to give you the best screening possible.

Mammograms Standard.: Self breast exam and mammography remain the “standard” at this point. However, if you have specific concerns about your situation and mammography, breast MRI may be something to look into. Best wishes.

Implants & mammogram: You should have no problems getting a mammogram with breast implants. They are still be standard screening tool for breast cancer in people with implants. Mri is an alternative and can also give you better information about the status of the implant. Mri are recommended by implant companies every two years although not a practical recommendation. Best to you!

Make sure: They know you have implants. If under the muscle added displacement views are helpful. Over the muscle consider adding mri.

MRI: An MRI is the best test to evaluate the integrity of silicone implants. A mammogram is usually adequate to evaluate the breast tissue. The submuscular placement is best for allowing the best view on mammogram.
