Biopsy: There is more than one type of imaging studies, and doctor may do more than one.If there is a suspicious mass, the doctor(s) will remove part of the mass, usually with a needle and submit the tissue for examination by a pathologist. After that it would depend on the what the pathologist finds.

The next step: would likely be a Breast ultrasound to further evaluate the lump and/or mammographic abnormality. Depending on the results, an image-guided needle biopsy may be indicated. If the mammogram and ultrasound demonstrate no abnormality, your doctor will need to determine what kind of follow up the lump needs.
