No: Nodules of the thyroid are common, most are benign. If the nodule is larger than 1 cm in size or has suspicious characteristics on ultrasound, a fine needle biopsy can be performed to make sure that it is benign. Nodules under 1 cm in size are usually followed clinically. Be sure to have a thyroid function blood test done.

Continue to observe: Small nodules occur in over 50% of people, as long as the're tiny, there's usually no problem, but continued medical monitoring is certainly recommended. The second nodule may have been there all along, but missed on the first exam.
